India dominates the world market in the production and export of psyllium. India provides approximately 80 percent of the psyllium available in the world market.India is the largest producer of isabgol and exports seed and huskworth Rs 25 million annually.Psyllium (Isabgul) was a native of Indian Continent, now grown in the western part of India. The main producing states are Gujarat, Rajasthan, MP & Harayana. Mainly it is cultivated in the Mehsana, Patan and Banaskantha districts of north Gujarat. Presently, India is the largest producer as well as exporter of Isabgul, Psyllium and Psyllium husk in the world. India provides about 85 percent of the psyllium available in the world market.The best suitable period fo cultivation of Psyllium is October‐November and plant are ready to harvesting at February‐March.The husk of the seeds is the main part of the plant that is used medicinally. About 26-27% of the husk can be obtained from the seeds. It always grows in sunny, clear weather before the time of harvest.
